Forest fire threatens homes in Navarre

A five acre forest fire off Whispering Pines brought out fire fighters from Holley Navarre, Midway, Navarre Beach, East Milton and Hurlburt Field on Jan. 14.
The blaze, which is believed to have started by illegal burning in a backyard in the 2400 block of Whispering Pines, took more than two hours to contain.
The fire threatened nearby homes and depleted resources in Santa Rosa County. Officials estimate that nearly five acres of woodlands were burned in the course of the fire.
