Florida Highway Patrol identifie d a Navarre man as the driver of a Pontiac GTO, which was believed to be involved in the death of a Gulf Breeze woman Nov. 26.
Following a FHP traffic homicide investigation, troopers arrested Dennis G. Collier, 30, of Navarre, on charges of racing, vehicular homicide and manslaughter.
Also arrested on the same charges was Logan B. Drinkard, 21, of Pensacola, who was driving a Ford Mustang and racing Collier along U.S. Highway 98 around 6:15 p.m. that day.
At the same time, Victor P. Bindi, 73, of Gulf Breeze was traveling westbound along U.S. 98, attempting to turn left onto Twin Pines Boulevard.
Drinkard struck the left side of Bindi's car, causing it to crash into a guard wire from a power pole.
Bindi's passenger, Germaine L. Bindi, 77, was taken to Baptist Hospital in Gulf Breeze where she was later pronounced dead.
Victor Bindi was also taken to Baptist Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The Bindis were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Drinkard declined treatment for his injuries, and he was also wearing a seat belt.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Both Collier and Drinkard turned themselves into authorities with no contest Dec. 29 and 30, respectively, after warrants for their arrest were issued.
Collier was issued a $250,000 bond, and Drinkard was held without bond pending his first appearance Dec. 31.
