An accident involving a semi-tractor trailer and a Honda Civic left the driver of the car with only minor injuries, despite extensive damage to the vehicle.
The truck, marked “Atlas Transport” from Birmingham Alabama, was backing onto a clay road on the south side of Hwy 399 when it was struck by the Honda, according to Holley Navarre Fire District Chief Ron Norton.
The car was pinned underneath the bed of the truck, and required a forklift to extract it and remove it from the road.
The driver of the Honda, a woman, had two dogs with her that remained in the car while she was treated for facial lacerations.
The driver of the forklift attempted to move the Honda off the road while the dogs were still inside.
HNFD Lt. Brian Razzoog and Firefighter Ernest “Mo Dee” Harris assisted the driver in removing the dogs.
Harris held and comforted Oscar the dachshund while the driver held onto Toby, a small brown and white short haired dog.
