Navarre High School senior Katherine Giannini will go on to compete in the state Commissioner's Academic Challenge competition at Disney World next spring with three other Santa Rosa County students after winning the district competition.
Each year, four students are nominated by their mathematics, science, social studies and English departments to represent their schools in this competition. Giannini was selected from NHS to compete in the social studies portion in Milton and placed first.
Seniors Alex Meade and Constanza Miguel from Gulf Breeze High School placed first in math and science respectively and senior Olivia Hart from Pace High School placed first in English.
Giannini said her win almost went to Hart because of a misprint. During the competition, contestants are asked multiple-answer and fill in the blank questions. The person who answers the questions in the shortest amount of time wins the category.
