The Midway Fire Department held its first town hall meeting last week to explain to the public why the department needs an increase to its tax rate.
Fire Chief Jonathan Kanzigg told the small crowd in attendance that a referendum would be going on the ballot in January. He said voting "yes" on the referendum would allow the department to increase its tax rate by no more than a .2 mills-cap per year to maintain the current level of services.
