Classes will resume on schedule Monday morning at Holley-Navarre Intermediate School after a roof fire early Saturday morning.
Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick said the cafeteria area that was damaged was cleaned up Sunday in time for school Monday. He said some minor repairs would have to be made to the cafeteria and an outside wall would have to be blocked off.
It took firefighters from three area fire departments to extinguish an early morning blaze at Holley-Navarre Intermediate School Saturday.
Holley-Navarre, Florosa and Navarre Beach firefighters responded to the scene at 1:15 a.m. to find a fire had broken out on the roof in the area of the school undergoing renovation.
"Winds blowing 15 - 20 mph fanned the flames across the roof," explained Holley-Navarre Fire Chief Ron Norton in an email.
Firefighters battled the inferno for 30 minutes until declaring it "out."
The cost of the damage was estimated at $50,000; the contractor for the project estimated that at least half of the newly installed roofing system would have to be replaced as well as the air conditioning unit that was destroyed, Norton said.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire .
