Local businessman Bart Pullum only thought he knew about transportation until he served five years on the Transportation Commission, the committee that oversees the Florida Department of Transportation.
"It was absolutely nothing like I expected, but it was certainly an educational experience," he said.
The committee is comprised of nine commissioners appointed by the governor or the legislature. Pullum was appointed by the governor in 2007 and his term expired at the end of September. He also served on the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce transportation committee.
"I've always been really interested in transportation issues," he said. "And everyone has the same goal; to relieve congestion, so that's what we work toward."
Some of the Transportation Commission's duties include recommending policies to the governor and legislature and reviewing the FDOT five-year work program.
