A Navarre woman was arrested Monday after Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office investigators determined that she was involved in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male.
The investigation began Oct. 10 after a complaint was filed with the Department of Children and Families. The complaint alleged inappropriate activity between the child and the woman, who was identified as 38-year-old Sheila Langman. The teenager and Langman were both interviewed by sheriff’s office investigators, who were able to determine that Langman had been sexually involved on multiple occasions with the teenager between July and September 2008. Based on the information that was obtained during the interviews, Langman was arrested shortly before 4 p.m. Oct. 13. Langman was transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail and charged with lewd or lascivious battery. She is currently being held on a $10,000 bond. Langman is a member of the Navarre Youth Sports Association board of directors, and is the cheerleading commissioner for NYSA. Darrin Nicely, vice-president of the NYSA, said on Tuesday that the board knew of the arrest but not the charges.“From a personal standpoint, I would have thought she would be the last person to be accused of something like that or that activity,” he said. Nicely said Langman has been involved with NYSA “for a long time” with both cheerleading and softball. “She’s good to the kids and very protective of them, too,” he said. The board is going to address the issue at its Oct. 15 board meeting. “We’ll have to wait and see what happens,” Nicely said. “We have to be careful of defamation of character, but at the same time we have to do what’s right for the kids. We don’t want to jump on this, we need to make sure it’s founded.”Lively said Langman passed all background checks that are mandatory for participation in NYSA.
