State Rep. Doug Broxson, R-Gulf Breeze, has co-sponsored House Bill 79, a bill proposed again this year by State Rep. Marti Coley, R-Marianna, to repeal the law requiring state-mandated septic tank inspections.
Broxson co-sponsored the same legislation during the 2011 legislative session. The bill had a great deal of support in the House but did not pass through the Senate before session ended. The current law, created by Sentate Bill 550, passed in 2010 and requires statewide septic tank inspections every five years at the home owner’s expense.
Broxson believes this regulation is excessive and over-reaching.
“This is an issue that the counties need to resolve locally, the state doesn’t need to dictate a solution,” Broxson said in a press release. “The local governments can investigate this matter and determine if there are any pollution problems in their county.”
