Zoning board urges Town Center changes

avarre resident Justin Diel, left, asks questions about the Heart of Navarre Overlay District on Aug. 11 during a public hearing regarding potential changes to the Navarre Town Center Plan. More than 50 concerned residents breathed a sigh of relief during an Aug. 11 public hearing as the Santa Rosa County zoning board approved recommending the county omit three portions of the Heart of Navarre overlay district.

After hearing input on the Navarre Town Center district from a dozen residents and board members for two hours, zoning board chairman Bill DuBois said the consensus was that people were most unhappy with the inclusion of First Addition of Navarre subdivision, the architectural style and color requirements and the Navarre Area Architectural Review Board.

The zoning board will now make a recommendation to the board of county commissioners to do away with those aspects of the Heart of Navarre overlay district. Commissioners will discuss the recommendation during its next meeting.
