Santa Rosa County Commissioner Bob Cole had to defend his intentions after the board of county commissioners shot down an idea for hiring an engineer of record.
During a July 25 commissioner committees meeting, Cole said he invited Warren Yeager with Preble-Rish, Inc., to discuss the concept of having an engineer of record. An engineer of record is responsible for all structural aspects of structure design and delegates responsibilities to other engineers.
Cliff Knauer, an engineer with Preble-Rish, said the engineering firm helped many counties in Northwest Florida that didn’t have engineering budgets by seeking out grant funding for projects at no cost. He said the county would not receive any bill until there was a signed contract for a project.
