Midway residents may soon pay more for fire protection.
Midway Fire Department Chief Jonathan Kanzigg wants to present a millage referendum during the next presidential primary to increase the millage rate from 1.4 to about 1.7.
Kanzigg said this increase is necessary to cover the rising costs of providing services to the community, and the increase is not a large one.
“If we go from a 1.4 to 1.7, that will bring in about $300,000 which is where we need to be to meet our budget obligations. It will actually bring us just short of that. The idea behind the referendum is to not to ask for more money than we need, it’s not for making capital improvements, it’s just to maintain that same service we have right now,” said Kanzigg.
