A cut fiber wire in southern Alabama was the cause of downed communication lines in Santa Rosa County last week.
Residents and businesses in central and northern portions of the county were unable to dial 911 on their land-line phones for about an hour June 23.
Cell service was still available and the county enacted its 911 outage plan. Residents who needed fire, ambulance, law enforcement or other first responder/emergency services could call 911 on their cell phone or go to the nearest fire station for assistance.
The phone outages also affected several county offices.
