Shoplifter gets away with DVR

Radio Shack suspect

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection to a shoplifting incident at Radio Shack.

On June 8, sheriff’s deputies were called to the electronics store, located in the Public Shopping Center in Navarre, off U.S. Highway 98.

The store owner told deputies that a male subject, who appeared to be in his 40s, entered the store and allegedly stole at four-channel DVR, valued at $379.99, according to a press release issued by the sheriff’s office.

The owner told deputies that the man entered the store while talking on his cell phone, and continued to talk on his cell phone while browsing the merchandise.

The owner was at the front register when the male subject was in the back of the store. The owner’s son, who also works at Radio Shack, went to see if the man needed anything, at which time, the subject left the store. The owner’s son noticed the DVR missing from the shelf.

The owner told deputies that he attempted to find the man in the parking lot to no avail.

The man was wearing a red, long-sleeved t-shirt, and a dark-colored ball cap.

Deputies reviewed the surveillance tape, which showed the man picking up the DVR from the shelf, bringing it to the back of the store, and hide it under his shirt.

Anyone with information concerning the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office at 981-2255 or Santa Rosa County Crime Stoppers at 437-STOP.
