UPDATED: Unnamed pedestrian struck, killed on U.S. 98

A pedestrian walking along U.S. Highway 98 was struck and killed Tuesday night.

As of Wednesday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol has yet to identify pedestrian.

According to a FHP press release, Jesse Burks Jr., 36, of Warner Robins, Ga., was traveling westbound on U.S. 98 near Falling Leaves Court, at 10: 30 p.m. June 7.

Burks failed to observe the pedestrian, who was walking eastbound in the westbound lane. Burks struck the pedestrian, who was then transported by Life Flight to Baptist Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Burks suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment.

Burks was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was a not a factor in the crash. However, FHP has not determined if the pedestrian was intoxicated.

There are no charges at this time.
