During the 2011 legislative session, lawmakers adopted changes to Florida statute 790.33 which, according to Santa Rosa County Commission Chairman Lane Lynchard, has taken away local governments’ ability to protect its citizens.
The statute regulates, and aims to standardize, laws regarding firearms and ammunition, according to the text of the statute. It also negates any regulations enacted by anyone other than state or federal levels and requires local government to enforce the state firearm laws, according to the text of the statute.
