Santa Rosa Sheriff’s office wants grant to fund deputies

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office requested permission from the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners to apply for a grant through the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services that will fund deputy positions.

COPS offers a hiring program that provides 100 percent funding for approved entry level salaries and benefits for newly-hired, full-time sworn officer positions or for re-hired officers. The funding lasts for three years with the condition that the previously funded positions will be guaranteed for one year after the COPS funding is finished, according to a letter Sheriff Wendel Hall provided to the commissioners.
