Commissioners value home rule over statewide mandate

Santa Rosa County Commissioners expressed concern at the April 11 County Commission meeting over a statewide mandated septic tank inspection program.

Currently, Santa Rosa County Health Department officials inspect septic tank systems at the property point of sale. At the end of last year’s legislative session a bill was approved that would change septic tank inspection protocol. One of the main issues affecting SRC is the bill prohibits inspections at the property point of sale. If current proposed bills in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives aren’t successful in repealing last year’s requirements, the county system will have to be disbanded.
