Generations of Americans still “get their kicks” on “Route 66,” shoppers flock to Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile” and the “Miracle Mile” in Los Angeles, and the Yellow Brick Road beckons dreamers to the Emerald City in L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz.”
Tourism officials hope a similarly enchanting name will draw vacationers off major east-west thruways to explore what Santa Rosa County has to offer. Thanks to the county’s Tourist Development Council, a bill designating the stretch of State Road 87 between U.S. 90 and U.S. 98 “Beaches and Rivers Parkway” is working its way through the Florida Legislature in Tallahassee.
