Facing a growing population, shrinking budget

The population is growing, but the budget is shrinking.According to data collected by the Census Bureau, Santa Rosa County’s population grew 28.56 percent between the 2000 census and the one conducted in 2010.
That means 33,629 more people live in Santa Rosa County now than 10 years ago.
Commissioner Jim Melvin said it was easy to figure out why the county population has grown that much.
“I suspect it has to do with the quality of life and school system in Santa Rosa County. It’s a beautiful place to live. We have waterways, woodlands and our beaches are beautiful,” said Melvin.
