Even with forecasts looking dreary and menacing, the 25th Navarre Krewe of Jesters’ Mardi Gras Parade was not rained out.
“It has never yet rained on our parade,” Wayne Hall, parade committee chair, said.
According to Hall, the parade was a success with about 10,000 to 12,000 people attending.
“Spectators behaved and every entry that I talked [with] said they had a great time,” Hall said.
Some of the entries were disappointed they didn’t win, but a few were happy with the outcome. The overall winners for the float contest were the Krewe of Silver Slippers from Milton. In the commercial category, Durham School Services brought home first place and Century 21 Island View Realty won second place. In the community category, The Krewe of the Silver Slippers received first place and the Fort Walton Beach Mardi Gras Club won second place. In the children’s category, the Navarre Navy Junior ROTC brought in first and Martial Arts America brought in second.
According to Public Information Officer Scott Haines of the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office, there were a few small incidents, but no major issues.
The Navarre Krewe of Jesters is already planning next year’s parade, according to Hall, who wants to give crowds another successful and fun event the whole family can enjoy.
