Senator Don Gaetz is introducing legislation that among other actions would make it a state policy to reserve 75 percent, of any fine or settlement funds awarded to Florida, for the seven counties he said were most affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill last year.
“It’s important to me, especially since I represent Northwest Florida, that the area that took the greatest amount of economic harm should receive the bulk of any fine or settlement dollars,” said Gaetz. “I don’t want the money to be drained away in Washington or Tallahassee.”
The seven counties included in this legislation are Santa Rosa, Escambia, Okaloosa, Walton, Bay, Gulf and Franklin counties.
