View-obstructing traffic led to a two-car collision that rotated one of the vehicles, according to its driver.
On Feb. 23 around 1 p.m., Murray Marshall was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 98 in Gulf Breeze. He was waiting in the left turn into Starbucks, according to a Gulf Breeze Police Department report.
Melissa Williamson was traveling westbound in the right lane of U.S. 98 and approaching the Export gas station, according to the report.
Westbound traffic was backed up past the gas station for the red light at Northcliff Drive. Marshall began his left turn and passed the left and center lanes without incident. However, he later told responding officers that stopped vehicles obstructed his view and he did not see Williamson in the right-hand lane. When Marshall’s Ford Escape entered the right lane, he was struck by Williamson’s vehicle in the passenger side.
The force of the collision caused Marshall’s vehicle to overturn and came to rest on the driver’s side.
Though there was several thousand dollars of damage to the vehicles, no injuries reported were reported by either driver or their passengers, according to the report.
Marshall was cited with failure to yield to on coming traffic.
