State Attorney Bill Eddins announced that the State will seek the death penalty against Joshua Wayne Douglas regarding the death of Jamie M. Broxson.
According to a state attorney media release, an Escambia County Grand Jury indicted Douglas on Dec. 22 for First Degree Murder and Sexual Batter (with a deadly weapon or force likely to cause serious personal injury).
Investigators interviewed Douglas on Dec. 7, at which time he admitted placing duct tape on Jamie Broxson and having sex with her. Broxson’s body was found in a wooded area off Jernigan Road north of Pensacola on Nov. 29, 2010.
Family members in Navarre last spoke to Broxson around Thanksgiving, and she was expected to come to her father’s house on Nov. 27.
DNA work performed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was used in the investigation and linked Douglas to the crime.
