Ian Lockwood succumbs to brain cancer

Ian Lockwood

Just months shy of graduating Navarre High School, senior Ian Lockwood succumbed to brain cancer – an illness he's been battling since August 2009.

Lockwood passed away late this afternoon, Jan. 28. in the comfort of Hospice Care and his family.

Lockwood was a star football player for the NHS Raiders and a Navarre Beach lifeguard. He recently was granted a ski trip with snowboarding legend Shaun White, part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

He was awarded the prestigious Captain's Award from NHS Football Coach Chad Lashely during the Raiders' football banquet Jan. 22. Lashley told Lockwood that his No. 10 jersey would be permanently retired in his honor.

The Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce bestowed its Citizen of the Year Award to Lockwood at its Annual Installation and Awards Banquet Jan. 15.

Navarre Press will publish more details as they are made available.
