Santa Rosa County commissioners debate Navarre Beach resolution

Changes in the wording of the resolution that could convey ownership of Navarre Beach to Santa Rosa County was debated during Monday’s Committee Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. The joint resolution between Santa Rosa and Escambia counties is planned to be sent to U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller and U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson for introduction as a bill before Congress. The bill would allow the conveyance of Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach to Santa Rosa and Escambia counties, respectively.

Last month, Commissioner Jim Melvin, who was not on the BOCC when the joint resolution was first written, asked that the wording in the document be changed to prevent the county from being locked into the 2001 Comprehensive Use Plan. His concern centered on wording that if were included in the bill would take “an act of Congress” to change.
