Disagreements over how Santa Rosa County should address Navarre Beach and garbage collection dominated the meeting of the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee on Dec. 21, 2010. Both issues are expected to be taken up by the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners later this month. The meeting was chaired by Committee Vice-Chair Etta Lawlor in the absence of Committee Chair Ralph Agnew.
Santa Rosa and Escambia counties began working on a joint resolution as a first step to transfer portions of Santa Rosa Island from federal control to the counties. The resolution was expected to be approved in December and sent to U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller and Senator Bill Nelson to be introduced as a bill in Congress this month. However, new County Commissioner Jim Melvin, whose district includes Navarre Beach, asked that it be delayed until he could review it more closely.
