Voter turnout nothing special in Santa Rosa County

The most surprising thing about Santa Rosa County’s voter turnout Nov. 2 might be that it was no surprise.

Ann Bodenstein, the county’s elections supervisor, said she had expected about half of the county’s 115,848 registered voters to cast ballots in the 2010 general election despite its being a “mid-term” contest. In 2002 and 2006, the last general elections without a presidential race topping the ballot, Santa Rosa County had 53.9 percent and 43.4 percent participation, respectively.
