Amendment 8 falls short

WyrosdickA proposed amendment to the controversial class size legislation passed by Florida voters in 2002 fell short last week, capturing only 55 percent of the necessary 60 percent margin required to pass.

The measure, Senate Joint Resolution 2, which proposed to allow class size limits set in 2002 to be calculated on average rather than a fixed number, had districts divided.  Administrators responsible for allocating funding for the measure supported the bill’s passing, while teachers opposed it, citing concerns about classroom overcrowding.
