Officials are investigating a hit-and-run accident that left a construction worker dead on U.S. Highway 98 just after 8 p.m. Monday night.
According to witnesses on the scene, a red sedan, later identified as a 2007 Ford Mustang driven by 50 year-old Wanda Spearman Wallace of Gulf Breeze, was driving erratically in the eastbound right lane of U.S. Highway 98 when it struck 44 year-old Darrell D. Perkins while he was working near the intersection of Woodlawn Beach Road.
“All I know is that I saw this red car hit something, and (my passenger) said it looked like a body,” said a witness, who asked not be identified. “I pulled over and ran over there as fast as I could.”
