New school year is off to a ‘good start’

KindergartenThough administrators awaited the 2010-2011 school year with trepidation thanks to tougher class-size requirements, principals in the South End agree that the year got off to a good start.

According to David Crissey, vice principal at West Navarre Intermediate School, the first day was smooth sailing for the more than 750 students who walked in the school’s front doors at the start of the day.

Crissey said the school had nearly 800 enrolled as of last week, but counted roughly 763 students as of Monday.

“We are right on target,” he said.  “We never expect exact numbers on that first day, but I feel like we’re right where we need to be.”
