Survivor’s story

File photo | Just four months ago, Staff Sgt. Chris Curtis’ life was very different.

A career airman stationed at Hurlburt Field, Curtis spent his weekends tooling around his Holley by the Sea home, or working on his car.

Back then, he was known mostly as a “flyer” on an aircraft he loved, or as a good friend, ready to lend to a hand.

Now, he’s known mostly as a survivor.

Curtis, 32, was one of two crew members who survived an April crash after the CV-22 Osprey aircraft in which he was a passenger went down in southeast Afghanistan.
