Commissioners sound the first note of Symphonia’s last song

The Symphonia’s storied saga is seemingly coming to an anticlimactic end, “not with a bang, but a whimper.”

At their committee meeting on Monday, the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners moved to the commission’s regular-meeting agenda the authorization of its engineering department to initiate the permitting process for the removal of the “derelict vessel in Navarre just east of the Navarre Beach Bridge.”

That nondescript phrase refers to the 85-year-old former yacht abandoned by Jason Anthony Dean, of Woodstock, Ga.
