Surviving Step by Step: Graduated from Radiation Therapy

I am so elated to finally be finished with my radiation therapy. I think that my body and mind tolerated the treatment pretty good. There were plenty of days that seemed longer and more trying than others, but I tried to think rationally. Sometimes, I had to drag myself out of bed and thought of an old commercial from Dunkin’ Donuts. Instead of saying “Time to make the donuts,” I would think “Time to get a sunburn.”

The staff attending to me was very caring and compassionate. They made the process easier to manage. I was given a “Certificate of Merit” signed by the staff. It was for being cheerful, having high courage, tolerance and determination. I was tickled. It made me smile and say out loud, “Yeah! All done.”

My skin can really start to heal now. The lotion has helped tremendously. I don’t have to worry about the heat messing up my marks. Those things drove me crazy. I plan to keep my routine care of my skin with the soaks and lotion (aloe). Unless something bad happens to my skin, I will see my radiologist the middle of August. I had blood work drawn today and will see my medical oncologist July 22. It can be a scary time. I hope for the best and know all will be OK. The secret gift for my son was a Dr. Suess book called “Happy Birthday.” It was really neat and all thought it to be a little weird. But that is what makes memories. We have baseball this weekend and soccer tryouts soon. Always busy. Now the rest of summer vacation can be salvaged and I can enjoy some fun days playing around.

My Faith will keep me strong and my Family will make me smile. Life is good.
