Surviving Step by Step: Keeping Busy

First and foremost, rest and eating well is important. But, I had to do more. I feel better after my house is clean. I can no longer get it done in one day, so it may take several. To me, it is my therapy. Keeps my mind off all my cancer treatments. I’m a planner. At night, after the children are in bed, I think about all that needs to be done the next day. Everything will not get accomplished, but that’s OK. I will rest in between and read a book, eat, talk on the phone and then, sometimes, talk myself into calling it a day and stop working. Other times, I will wait until late afternoon and pick back up where I left off.

I’m feeling really blessed to have more good days than bad ones. I’m looking at the good of all this rather than feeling, “Woe is me.” I won’t have to shave my legs all summer. WOW. With the economy as it is, I’m saving on shampoo, conditioner and water. I’m not driving all over the place anymore, so I’m saving on gas and wear and tear on my car. Granted, it may be spent on the children, but that is family fun.

After taking care of the sleeping issue, I can concentrate better around the family. Not so stressed. Do I still worry? Of course. I’m hoping to hear after all is done that I’m cancer free. Until then, all I can do is stay strong, have hope and keep up the good work. Staying busy helps me keep a handle on my challenge. For any new readers out there, I wanted to remind people that the American Cancer Society in Pensacola can help out with wigs and head coverings for free.
