On Dec. 7, 2009, the Santa Rosa County Board of County Commissioners decided there where so many issues surrounding the Summerwind’s beach leases, they would have to study the issue further.

A short, but violent storm passed through Navarre Beach on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2009, around 7:30 p.m. With the storm came high winds, tornado warnings and scattered lightning. Besides a high surf and sand blown across the streets, the storm appeared to inflict little damage to the beach.

After hearing it wasn’t selected for the Pensacola Bay Impact 100 Grant, members of the Navarre Beach Marine Sanctuary Committee were rocked by more bad news: Chairman Mark Griffith announced he would be temporarily working in Atlanta next year.
